BSR and the Elderly
Older individuals often attribute pain, stiffness, and reduced function to the natural ageing process, and may come to accept these limitations as inevitable. When people express that they are “too old” to expect improvement, it is important to remember that the body’s ability to heal remains active throughout life. Just as a cut on the skin continues to heal regardless of age, the body’s internal repair mechanisms remain present.
Because Body Stress Release is gentle, precise, and non-invasive, it is particularly well suited for elderly and even frail individuals. The technique is applied with care and sensitivity, making it both safe and effective for this age group.
BSR has frequently assisted older clients with a range of concerns, including bladder weakness, osteoarthritis, and persistent pain in the legs, back, and hips—conditions often assumed to be simply age-related.
Osteoarthritis
A woman in her seventies underwent X-rays which revealed advanced osteoarthritis of the spine, including degeneration of the vertebrae and the presence of osteophytes (bony outgrowths), particularly in the cervical region. She had experienced increasing and persistent pain over many years.
After just two sessions of Body Stress Release, she reported improved neck mobility and was free from pain. It had initially been assumed that the osteophytes were compressing spinal nerves. However, the rapid reduction in symptoms suggested otherwise. In this case, the pain was more likely due to the compressive effect of stored muscular tension within the spinal structures, rather than direct pressure from the bony changes.
Weak Bladder
A man in his sixties had stopped joining his friends on fishing trips due to the embarrassment of frequent urination. Following several months of Body Stress Release for chronic lower back pain, he noticed a significant improvement. The pressure and irritation affecting his bladder subsided, allowing him to confidently resume his social activities.
