Treatments We Offer
Chronic Pain, Back and Neck Ache, Sciatica, Anxiety and Stress

Chronic Pain
Body Stress Release (BSR) is a technique aimed at addressing chronic pain and discomfort by releasing tension stored in the body.
Chronic pain can arise from a range of factors, including:
- Physical injuries
- Repetitive strain
- Postural imbalances
- Ongoing stress and tension
- Underlying health conditions
Over time, the body may store this stress as protective tension, which can interfere with normal movement, nerve function, and overall wellbeing.
Body Stress Release in Australia focuses on identifying these areas of stored tension and assisting the body in releasing them naturally.
This gentle approach involves applying light pressure to specific points on the body, helping to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
It’s important to note that while BSR may offer relief for some individuals, it may not be suitable for everyone or a standalone treatment for certain medical conditions. It’s always advisable to consult with healthcare professionals to determine the most appropriate approach for managing chronic pain.

Child Care
BSR is a gentle, non-invasive, and safe technique suitable for infants to release stored tension from the body, often caused by the birth process.

Children are often labelled as naughty, disruptive, dreamy, or slow to learn, when in reality many of these behaviours may be linked to underlying body stress. From unsettled babies to restless toddlers and distracted schoolchildren, signs such as persistent crying, “growing pains,” attention difficulties, or even bed-wetting can indicate that the body is holding tension.
In babies, body stress in the neck may present as constant crying without an obvious cause. Stress in the lower back can lead to discomfort during nappy changes—particularly when the hips are lifted—and may also be associated with constipation. Tension in the diaphragm area can influence digestion, contributing to colic, reflux, wind, and disrupted sleep. Babies who are unsettled, cry frequently, or struggle to sleep may be responding to these areas of stored tension. As children grow, reluctance to walk or complaints of sore legs—often referred to as “growing pains”—may indicate stress in the lower back and hip regions.
Tension in the lower back, hips, and pelvis can also affect the leg muscles, sometimes causing the feet to turn inward. If the nerve supply to the bladder is affected, this may contribute to bed-wetting.
As children enter school, tension in the neck may impact concentration and behaviour, leading to distractibility or disruption in the classroom. Lower back stress may result in restlessness and difficulty sitting still. During adolescence, ongoing tension can contribute to postural changes, including spinal curvature or scoliosis, often aggravated by heavy school bags, high-impact activities, or prolonged poor posture.
For this reason, many parents choose regular Body Stress Release check-ups for their children, helping to ensure that the body remains free of tension and able to support healthy growth, development, and overall wellbeing.

Back and Neck Ache
Show More
Back people tend to experience one or more of these signs: backache, a back that has gone into spasm, a stiff back when you wake up in the morning (although it disappears after you’ve moved around for about 10 minutes), pains down the legs, tingling sensations in your feet, don’t enjoy standing for long, sometimes your knees buckle under you for no obvious reason, feels like you are dragging your one leg when you are walking.
Neck people tend to have some of these signs: a sore stiff neck, limited movement of the neck, headaches, pain down the arm/s, tingling/numbness in the fingers, weakness in the arm/s or fingers, soreness in the muscles in the upper back, jaw pain.
These are just some of the reasons why our clients come to seek treatment. This technique is also beneficial for babies and children. In fact, it is suitable for anyone, whatever their age or state, new-born to elderly, whatever their condition – acute pain, chronic discomfort, or simply maintaining well-being.

Sciatica
BSR has an impressive track record in assisting clients dealing with sciatic pain and other lower back-related issues.

While having treatment, it’s advisable to steer clear of activities that could exacerbate nerve irritation in the lower back, such as heavy lifting, bending, and twisting.
Sciatic pain, often accompanied by lower back discomfort, stems from the compression or irritation of nerves exiting the spine in the lower back, typically due to tense muscles. The sciatic nerve extends from the buttocks down to the feet, governing much of the sensation and motor function in the legs and feet, potentially leading to various symptoms, including:
• Pain extending from the lower back into the glutes/hip and down the leg
• Shooting pains or burning sensations in the leg and/or foot
• Increased discomfort while sitting or driving
• Tingling, numbness, or weakness in the leg and/or foot
• Difficulty in leg movement

Anxiety and Stress
Each day, we confront a barrage of emotional, mechanical, and chemical stressors.
Mental stressors encompass fears about the future, financial concerns, workplace competition, and strained family relationships. Sometimes, we’re hit with sudden intense emotions like anger or shock, while other times, we endure milder yet persistent mental strains such as anxiety, depression, and resentment. These emotional pressures often manifest physically, with our diaphragm, jaw, neck, and shoulders tensing up defensively.
To alleviate emotional and mental stress, it’s crucial to consciously relax when tension builds. Additionally, it’s beneficial to explore activities and techniques that resonate with us individually, aiding in achieving emotional equilibrium and inner peace, such as meditation.

Headaches & Jaw Problems
We can assist in relieving headaches and jaw pain by addressing stored tension in the upper cervical spine and jaw muscles.
The head and neck are particularly vulnerable to all three forms of stress identified in Body Stress Release—mechanical, emotional, and chemical. The symptoms we encounter in practice often arise from one or a combination of these influences.
Headaches and Migraines
The head is the body’s primary sensory and control centre. It houses not only the brain responsible for thought and emotion, but also the organs of sight, hearing, taste, and smell—all of which provide essential feedback about our environment and wellbeing.
Weighing approximately 8 kilograms, the head is supported by the cervical spine and surrounding musculature, which must remain constantly active to maintain posture and function. Only during rest does this system have the opportunity to recover.
The cervical spine also plays a crucial role in nerve supply to the head, influencing functions such as jaw movement, facial sensation, and eye coordination.
Headaches—whether occasional or chronic—are a common indication that the body is under strain. Body Stress Release aims to address the underlying tension, particularly within the cervical spine, that may contribute to these symptoms.
Many clients, including those diagnosed with migraines, report significant improvement as stored tension is released. While BSR practitioners do not diagnose medical conditions, the technique often plays a valuable supportive role in reducing the frequency and intensity of headaches and migraines.
Neck Pain, Stiffness, and Restricted Mobility
The demands of modern life place continuous stress on the neck. Prolonged use of computers and communication devices often leads to stiffness, reduced mobility, and the need to frequently stretch or “click” the neck for relief.
In some cases, neck issues may be linked to past trauma, such as whiplash injuries, where protective tension remains stored in the muscles long after the initial event. This type of tension is not always visible on imaging such as X-rays or scans, yet it can result in significant discomfort.
Clients may experience:
- Stiffness upon waking due to poor sleep posture
- Tightness and reduced mobility after a long day
- Clicking or cracking sensations in the neck
In Body Stress Release sessions, particular attention is given to the neck due to its critical role and susceptibility to stress.
Jaw tension is frequently associated with:
- Poor posture, particularly during computer use
- Emotional stress and anxiety
- Habitual clenching or grinding
By releasing tension in the cervical and surrounding regions, Body Stress Release often helps reduce strain on the jaw. Many clients experience noticeable improvement within the first few sessions, although in some cases a longer course of care may be required.
In Summary
The head and neck form a highly sensitive and functionally critical region of the body. When stress becomes stored here, it can manifest in a wide range of symptoms—from headaches and migraines to jaw tension, sinus issues, and postural discomfort.
Body Stress Release works by gently assisting the body to release these patterns of stored tension, restoring balance, improving nerve communication, and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal and function optimally.
